SERVICES/EQUIPMENT: SIP trunks, 'hosted PBX' phones/endpoints using DNS-based registration

TYPE OF EVENT:        Temporary DNS resolution failure

IMPACT OF EVENT:    SIP trunks offline; 'hostedPBX' phones / endpoints offline

Event Description:

There was a brief interruption to some services this morning.  Any clients using phones registered to our 'HostedPBX' service via any of our DNS hostnames, and SIP trunks registered to our gateways via DNS hostnames (such as those ending in 'telephonic.ca', or older hostnames that end in 'fuguphone.net') would have experienced their phones going offline, and the SIP trunks going offline.

The situation has been resolved, and we have contacted our domain name services provider to determine the exact cause of the issue.  They have reported that they have been   This is the first even brief outage with this service we have seen in our 5+ years of operation.

All our equipment remained online and available on the public Internet via raw IP addresses, so inbound calls were still reaching our gateways and voicemail was being taken.

If your SIP trunk or IP phone is still not registered, please issue a 'SIP reload' on your PBX, reboot the endpoint, and / or reboot your router to refresh the registration.

All 'CloudPBX' clients using our private VPN to register their phones did not experience the issue.
